Its an old story.
Today’s city of Banaras was also known as Kashi, a city of knowledge and enlightment. And Kashi was more known for a rich value of culture, religion, vedas and meditations.
One among several others, Acharya Bamdeo was well known as well as the highest established and highly educated teacher for philosophy and meditative skills. Determined students from various towns and villages would come to his school.
Deep knowledge, loving attitude, the methods of simplest way and neutral approach for which several students used to have their top priority to joint with him for knowledge and education.
Amongst various students, one who was from a lower middle class family add joined over a decade. He was simple, calm, intelligent and had a cool approach. He was in a continuous determination toward learning and adding. His age was around 18.
After the spring season on completion of their (students) graduation, only then they were returned back to their destinations from Kashi.
This time during the spring season after the festivals, more then 12 or beyond years who were studying were approached by Acharya Bamdeo for their final examinations. Among several other students, the low middle class student named Shrinivas was also ready for the same.
Five highly well known teachers (similar to professor of 'head of department -HoD- in the modern way; also known as 'Pandit') had arrived at Acharya Bamdev's school. In India (also named as Bharat) for science, geophysics and philosophy is highly graded. Such were also known as 'Darshan'. Darsha is a combined collectives of science, geophysics, philosophy, vedas and upanishadas. And such critical questions that the teachers used to ask. And subjects would variate to any student.
Such examination method used to activate for the entire week from sunrise to sunset. All five teachers used to put 'complicated' question to the student/s. Evena question is answered teachers would ask for an explanation in a tougher approach.
Some times the teachers would ask 'shalaakaa' exam. Any subjective question from various books of literature and/or its explanation was expected from the students. Such were known as 'shalaakaa' (by sanskrit work) exams. In such several examinations were conducted in Acharya Bamdev's school in Kashi.
With various topics and subjects, students who failed to reach at the required levels were being dropped out and delivered back to their towns and villages.
Finally only four students were remaining at the final examination. One amongst four was Shrinivas.
The 'aggressive attack' by pandits (teachers) on the students was at its height. With rapid fluctuations with various subjects such as religion, history, geophysics, science, sadness/happiness, truth and otherwise, vedas and upanishad were explored. Shrinivas was calmly as well as confidently explaining all answers to the questions. By then only three students including Shrinivas had remained for the final countdown.
"Acharya, at this junction your three students have put their best efforts and determination. Their theory with its explanation is excellent. studies and its various perspective is worth its explanation and its deep meaning. Perfect grip of the languages is excellent. But... " said the oldest teacher among five.
"True... but is that the only visible theory ?" said another.
"... is that enough just pure theory... daily actions with the collaborative combination of 'what' and 'how' to implement and its usage are essential..." suggested another teacher.
For a few minutes everything was in a 'freeze' mode. Acharta Bamdev in few minutes and then asked to get three hens and three knives.
Everyone around were aback. Wondering as to why and what was the need of hens and knives. Acharya Bamdev gave a set of a hen and a knife to each student.
"Each of you with the hen and knife, in different directions where they should kill the hen... and then each one should come back to school." said Acharya Bamdev.
All three students went in three various direction.
Within hours two students arrived back along with their dead hens.
Both the students were asked to sit at the left side of the examination hall. All the teachers, students, other members and people at the hall were watching. But Shrinivas had not yet arrived.
Everyone were anxiously waiting for arrival of Shrinivas. And the sunset was shrinking.
So some of the students went out in search of Shrinivas. And suddenly..... Shrinivas was slowly walking towards the entrance of the school. With a tired look, sad and crying eyes, in a traumatic expressions and paining shoulders he he enters.
And with him was the..... hen !!! And that too alive !!!!
Shrinivas came before the dais in front of the senior teachers.
"Guru (teacher)..... sorry teacher and please bare with me..." said Shrinivas.
"Why ?" asked Acharya Bamdev.
"I could not complete the required task" Shrinivas.
"But why ?" Acharya Bamdev.
"Guruji, I went in a different location and there was no one else. But, the hen.... was with open eyes was looking at me...." Shrinivas. "I tided his eyes as well as mine and then holded the knife..."
In an amusing and anxiously asked one of the teachers "what happened next ?"
"I just could not raise the knife to kill the hen" said Shrinivas. All around him were watching him in a tensed and amusing way. Some were feeling sympathy or coward. Some were feeling doubts and non-supportive. And just a couple of people were enthusiastically eager to get the root answer and explanation.
"Whenever anybody is not seeing or noticing others, Acharchya, the only on the entire universe Parmeshwar (Goa Almighty) watches every movements, isn't it ? By killing the hen, I would be lying myself as well as my conscious... Isn't it ? Please bare with my subject and explanation but..." said Shrinivas.
"Excellent !!! Congratulation Shrinivas.... no.... Shrinivas Shastri (status as qualified graduation) has successfully achieved the knowledge of science, religion, geophysics and meditation in every perspectives in a Devi Saraswati (goddess by Indian culture-heritage-knowledge) status with its highest level of knowledge has been awarded for you" said Acharya Bamdev.
"Great is your teacher.... so are you....." expressed Acharya Bamdev and Shrinivas was bowing to all the other teachers who had come to Kashi for the special event as Acharya Bamdev continued to talk.
"To all the members on this dais, Shrinivas Shastri did not follow or studied with just theory only. Practical knowledge combined with manner as well. He has well balanced the required skills and need of practical thinking, ideas, wisdom and its actions. Knowledge is the core requirement with and towards individuals and to the entire society. If such requirements are not used in the connect ways and methods what will be its use? People, humans and animals have a common dharm (religion) and that is the architecture... and its the main concept. Truth, law, love, non-violence are the four basic beams of structure.
Shrinivas Shastri, we are giving you the status of graduation degree..."
With joy and happiness Shrinivas was with eyes of tears. He and all his batch mates were bowing towards Acharya Bamdev and other teachers.
Much later this student was well known for the resource and born of 'Anu' - Atom - by nun other then Kanaad.
